4 Seemingly Harmless Habits That Can Age You

Smoking, sun exposure, and stress are some of the first few things that come to mind that tend to age us. Though these factors are obvious, there are other things that can make time tick faster. You’d be surprised that the tiniest habits are affecting your skin. Let’s talk about what’s causing our skin to age.

  1. Sleeping on your side is a wrinkle enabler because the skin is being stretched, pushed and pulled during many hours of sleep. With time the collagen and connective tissue will weaken and turn those fine lines into wrinkles. A solution to this problem is to sleep on your back. Practicing to sleep on your back is challenging but it will benefit your skin in the long run.
  2. Sleeping with makeup on is a topic I recently discussed because I can’t reiterate enough how terrible it is for the skin. When you wear makeup at night your skin is unable to breath, repair, and hydrate properly. It prevents the natural process of repair during the nighttime. Therefore its extremely important to wash off the your makeup and apply a hydrating and anti-aging cream.
  3. Indoor heating around the winter time is known to irritate and dry out our skin. Therefore, invest in a humidifier and a wonderful moisturizer that is high in natural oils and emollients. This will keep your skin nice and smooth during the holidays.
  4. Age-accelerating foods such as trans fat, processed food, and excess sugar. All of theses food types are linked to inflammation and cause havoc on your overall health. Be sure not to cut out the healthy fats from your diet since they help your body absorb antioxidants, fat-soluble vitamins, and other nutrients that are beneficial to the skin. A good fat to consume is omega-3 fatty acids, which has an anti-inflammatory effect that can counter the aging process.
