How To Manage And Prevent An Oily Scalp

Oily scalps can cause lots of frustration for ladies who have soft clean hair one minute then dirty the next. First, lets define oily scalp – it is due to excess production of natural oils on sebum. Sometimes fungus on your scalp may also cause it as well. Other culprits can be hereditary, hormonal, and stress related. Don’t worry though, these helpful tips will help not only manage an oily scalp but also prevent it.

  • Use apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, or beer after shampooing. The acidic properties will reduce the oils from the roots and remove dandruff and alleviate residue and building on your scalp.
  •  A couple of drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo will help decrease the itchiness
  • Apply aloe vera before shampooing for five minutes to hydrate the scalp and help reduce oiliness

Seborrheic dermatitis is the overproduction of oil and often correlates with malassezia. To combat this disease I recommend in consulting with your dermatologist for medicated products that contain selenium sulfide and zinc pyrithione that helps control any oiliness caused by the fungus.  These ingredients can also be found over the counter as well!

Have a great day!
